The Yakima Rifle and Pistol Association was founded in 1903 and was chartered by the National Rifle Association in 1914. We are the oldest continuously active NRA club in the United States. It is believed that the original club was formed by former members of the Washington State Volunteers, North Yakima, Company K, after service in the Philippines following the Spanish-American War of 1898.
In the early years, the club shot at the old National Guard Armory at 3rd Street and Walnut Street in downtown Yakima. In the 1950ís the club built a range and clubhouse on the Central Washington State Fair grounds. The club shot at that range until the Fair Board refused to renew the property lease in the 1970ís. The club now shoots most of its matches at Sun Valley Shooting Park in Moxee. The Junior Program is based at the Tieton Rifle Club in Tieton.
